Maxxis Bighorns – Mud Tested

We took our ‘93 XJ with 33″ Maxxis Bighorns out this weekend with the GreatLakesXJ.com crew for their annual WinterFest at Haspin Acres.

It has been cold for weeks prior (like high’s in the mid-teens) but not this weekend. So needless to say it was a sloppy mud-fest. We’re not huge fans of the mud, but it did give us a chance to put the new Maxxis Bighorns threw their paces in the mud. Once again we were amazed at how well they performed in the conditions thrown at them. Everyone else aired down but we decided to just stay at our normal psi. They performed well, cleared the mud very well, and we honestly did not have any complaints on how they performed. We’ve had many different sets of tires in the past and we’ve had our fair share of muddy wheeling trips and the Maxxis Bighorns have performed the best of any tire we’ve used that is not strictly a mud-only tire.

The Maxxis Bighorn line continues to prove itself in the conditions that we throw at them. They’ve been a awsome tire for us and we’ll continue to run them on any further rigs that see any trail time. Everyone who wheels with us can attest to our love for these tires!

You can purchase your set of Maxxis Bighorns from MotionOffroad.com . They are available in a variety of sizes for both 15″ and 16″ rims.

Rough Country XJ Control Arm Drop Brackets

FINALLY! Someone else besides Rubicon Express has came out with a set of XJ control arm drop brackets. The first set of drop brackets available were made by Trailmaster. Than Rubicon Express expanded on the idea and made a set that incorporated support braces. However since than no company has stepped up to compete with the RE set. The point of drop brackets are to lower the control arms so they sit more parallel to the ground; thus improving the ride quality for lifted Cherokee’s.

Rough Country seems to be stepping up to the plate lately and has just released it’s version of the drop brackets for the XJ. They are made out of 1/4″ steel and look to be very well made. RC says to use them with at least 4.5″ of lift; however we think they’ll work fine even at 3.5″.

The best part is they are almost half the cost of the RE setup. RC list’s them at $230 for a set; motionoffroad.com is selling them for much less!
