Product Review – G2 Aluminum Heavy Duty Differential Covers

He have had a lot of questions regarding the new G2 Heavy Duty Aluminum Differential Covers over the past several weeks. So we decided to pull one out of the box and give you guys a better look at them. The cover we’re looking at today is the Dana 30 (G/240-2031AL) Aluminum cover.

G2 aluminum differential covers are manufactured from Heat Treated Aluminum, and are designed to dissipate heat while withstanding the rigors of the off road environment. Cast from a proprietary alloy developed for motorcycle engines, these covers not only cool your oil, they are designed and tested to add rigidity to your housing and protect the ring & pinion from damage.

Some of the features of this cover are the fully machined seal surface for a leak free installation. The cover comes with gasket maker and all bolts required for install. So all you need to do is simply pull it out of the box, and install it.  It also has the reinforcing ribs for added rigidity and strength, not to mention that it has been heat treated & shot peened to handle direct impact. A lot of guys have been skeptical about the strength of the aluminum covers; we’re confident that they can hold up to the abuse!

One of the biggest selling points of this cover is that it has a fill AND drain plug. Not many of the other covers we well (actually we can only think of the ARB’s) have the drain plug. This is especially nice when doing  a fluid change so you don’t have to pull your entire cover off.

As mentioned above, the covers come with everything needed for install. You’ll just need to buy a few quarts of fluid (we recommend going with Royal Purple). With the raised fill plug you’ll be able to get a bit of extra fluid in your axle for prolonged gear life.

What is the other major advantage of going with an aluminum cover? Weight saving’s comes to mind. The G2 Dana 30 cover weighs in at only 3.20lbs. Compared to the similar designed Rockcrusher weighing in at 11lbs. That’s a weight savings of 7.8lbs on the D30 cover.
